2008 Annual Business Meeting < PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE > The annual President’s Party at the home of Elizabeth Austin will be combined this year with CCI’s annual business meeting. Elizabeth’s address is 9 Eastwood Road in Storrs, and her telephone number is 860.429.1279. To get there, if driving north on I-84, go off at the route 195 exit and turn right toward Storrs. Continue through the UConn campus then turn right onto Eagleville Road and right again onto Eastwood Road. 9 Eastwood is on the left. All who plan to attend are asked to bring a dish for the supper. Beverages will be provided by Elizabeth.
Call for Scores It was agreed at the business meeting last year, before the fourth CD was released later in the year, to devote a disc to vocal music, not music for chorus as on the recording with the Kent Singers, but to music mostly for solo voice and one or more instruments. The instrument that we would mostly expect is, of course, the piano. Some music for two or even three solo voices would also be welcomed. There will likely be many obstacles to producing such a recording not least of which will be the need to select works that, appearing together, will make a coherent program. A single song, for example, unless it is sufficiently long, will be almost impossible to fit into such a program. Members are therefore asked to submit only groups of songs in which the order of the songs has been carefully chosen according to their contrasting characters. Members whose music is chosen will be responsible for providing a completely edited recording on a compact disc and for sharing in the final manufacturing cost of the recording on the Capstone label according to the duration, calculated in seconds, of the selection. The sound quality of this recording will also be judged but, equally importantly, the quality of the performance since we anticipate the participation of several singers. Members interested in contributing to the CD should send a copy of their scores indicating the order in which they should appear on the recording and a recorded example by the performers who may be asked to record the music. These materials should be received by Allen Brings by December 1. Send them to him at: 199 Mountain Road A committee will be convened to make all of the final decisions. 2007 Annual Business Meeting The 2007 annual meeting will take place on Sunday, August 19, at 3 pm at the home of Allen Brings in Wilton. Sunday was chosen to make it possible for those who have to work during the week to attend. If you have any questions, you may call Allen Brings at 203.762.5186 or e-mail him at miramusic@aol.com. Driving directions are as follows: From the north take I-84 to US7 south. Continue on 7 until the intersection of 7 with routes 57 and 107 (there will be a Shell station on the left). Turn right onto Mountain Road. The house is on the left only a few minutes up the hill with the number 199 on the black mailbox. From the south take US7 north (possibly from I-95 or the Merritt Pkwy.) and continue through Wilton until the intersection of 7 with routes 57 and 107 (there will be a Shell station on the right). Turn left onto Mountain Road. The house is on the left only a few minutes up the hill with the number 199 on the black mailbox.

Elizabeth Austin Hope to see all of you at the sort-of-annual President's Party here in Storrs on Saturday, April 14, beginning around 3 p.m. Jerry Reed, my gifted pianist friend from Nashville, who is eager to learn more new music (yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus), has been preparing music by CCI members far and wide! He will give us a recital before we have had some food and drink and jollity (please bring a favorite dish to share — I'll provide the drinks!). We hope to have Jerry play an all CCI-concert at the Wood Library in South Windsor as soon as a date is confirmed . . . probably sometime in the fall of 2007. My address is 9 Eastwood Road, Storrs, CT 06268, and my telephone number is 860.429.1279. To get here, if driving north on I-84, go off at the route 195 exit and turn right toward Storrs; then continue through the UConn campus. Turn right onto Eagleville Road and right again onto Eastwood Road. 9 Eastwood on the left. For those anxious to know more about Jerry Reed, he keeps an active performance schedule in the US and Europe, giving recitals and lectures and adjudicating competitions. Recent performances include recitals at Orvieto Musicale in Italy and a solo recital in New York City in addition to performances in Hungary, Germany, Belgium, Austria, England, Uruguay and France. He has appeared as both soloist and chamber musician throughout the US. His recordings for the Capstone label have been broadcast over MDR in Germany, Australian National Public Radio and NPR. He holds MM and DMA degrees in piano performance from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He is Professor of Music at Lipscomb University, where he teaches private piano and courses in piano literature, piano pedagogy and collaborative piano. He is noted for his frequent performances of new music and has appeared at many major new music festivals. He has given over 35 performances of the Ives Concord Sonata and has given both the American and European premieres Elizabeth Austin’s Rose Sonata. In addition to his work as a performer and teacher, he serves as chair of the music division of the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts. He has also written numerous reviews of books and pedagogical materials for the American Music Teacher.

We invite all CCI members to submit works to be included on this program. Members submitting work will be responsible for providing their own performers although CCI may be able to provide some minimal funding from the Brubeck Performance Fund. Trinity Church is able to provide both a piano and its excellent pipe organ. The deadline for the submission of scores is Monday, November 28, 2005. You are urged to include a cassette tape or CD of your scores if they are available. Please provide SASE for the return of all materials. This concert offers CCI a special opportunity to put its best foot forward. Along with organ recitals and chamber music programs presented to sophisticated audiences Trinity Church was recently host to a complete performance of the Bach St. Matthew Passion with double orchestra, double choir, and first-rate soloists under the direction of its organist and choir director Dr. Charles Dodsley Walker. Submissions should be mailed to: Allen Brings 199 Mountain Road Wilton, CT 06897-1526 o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o UPCOMING EVENT CCI members are all invited to attend a “salon” at which they will be able to play CDs or cassette tapes of their work, discuss their work, or just talk about music among themselves.
